The completion of homework tasks helps students establish good time management practices while reinforcing the learning that has taken place.

It gives parents an opportunity to see the learning activities their child is engaged in while at school.

Departmental Regulation 23 states: “A teacher at a state school may require a student of the school to complete homework.” The Department of Education, Training and the Arts homework policy states that homework for students in:

* Year 1 to 3 could be up to but generally not more than 1 hour per week.
* Year 4 & 5 could be up to but generally not more than 2-3 hours per week.
* Year 6 & 7 could be up to but generally not more than 3-4 hours per week.
