Healthy Eating in Prep with Milton Fruit Bowl

20/07/2017
As part of our Health unit on 'Keeping Healthy', the Prep classes learnt about healthy eating; what healthy foods are and why it is important to eat in such a way.

Luckily, we have the owners of Milton Fruit Bowl amongst our Camp Hill community - the Porfyriou family (Prep Red & 2A) and the Di Stasi family (1B & 3A). They donated some fresh produce so the children could have some 'hands on' experience with what represents some of our best healthy food options.

In Week 10 last term, Milton Fruit Bowl provided each Prep class with a big box of produce containing an assortment of fruits and vegetables.  This became the students Munch and Crunch for the whole week!  We cut up and shared a wide variety of produce each day; things like coconut, nashi, baby corn, cherry tomatoes, sugar snap peas, baby carrots (with the skin on), passionfruit, rockmelon etc.   Each family also received one of the Milton Fruit Bowl's hessian enviro bags to take home.

Our taste buds are replaced every ten days and as such each child was encouraged to have a taste. We discussed that their 'new taste buds' might like something, not liked before - and quite often they did!

Milton Fruit Bowl now also offer online ordering, including fruit and veg boxes with delivery to our local area.

Thanks Milton Fruit Bowl - it was a huge success and we loved it!
