Aims of the Chaplaincy Program

The Camp Hill State Infants and Primary School Chaplaincy Program is part of the (voluntary) suite of programs available to Camp Hill State Infants and Primary School students to support their social emotional development.

The Chaplaincy Program, working with Scripture Union, is supported by the Local Chaplaincy Committee (LCC) and overseen by the School Principal.

The Camp Hill State Infants and Primary School Chaplaincy Program was funded by the Australian Government Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations under the National School Chaplaincy and Student Welfare Program.

The CHSIPS Chaplaincy program does not include, nor is part of, the Camp Hill State Infants and Primary School Religious Education Instruction program which is a voluntary faith based program offered to students in Years 1 – 3.

School community parents/family members are encouraged to contact the school administration office to make an appointment with the Chaplain if they wish to engage in individual programs of support.

Faith based programs are only provided to students with written parent permission.

The LCC members table progress on the program at the Parents and Citizens meetings throughout the school year.

The community is encouraged to contact the School Principal for additional information or to provide feedback. The Principal is, at all times, the line manager for the School Chaplain.

What do the Chaplains do?

A School Chaplain is a safe person for young people to connect with at school, providing a listening ear, caring presence, and message of hope. Chaplains run positive, fun activities for young people, both in and out of school, and foster a supportive, caring school community.

This includes support:

  • for at-risk students,
  • for staff and families from the wider school community
  • for spiritual direction for the school community.

The partnership between the school and the Chaplain, supported by local churches, businesses and community organisations, provides a network of local support and assistance. These positive relationships help young people to face issues, and provide hope, connection, meaning, and purpose.

About our Chaplain

My name is Malcolm Brown and I have started as the Chaplain at Camp Hill State Infants and Primary School in first term 2011. I have worked at SU Qld in the Vocational Training Department as an Administrator, Trainer in the Cert 4 of Youth Work, and a Chaplain at Wavell State High School in 2007.

As well been a professional musician playing electric and double bass at weddings, parties, anything up and down the Coast. I have been involved in Youth/Children's work for the past 16 years attending many SU Qld Camps, Community Outreaches and volunteered in local schools assisting the Chaplains and various holiday programs.

I have directed the SU Qld Creative Arts Summer Camp for five years as I really love the creative arts and it remains one of my passions. I enjoy seeing young people being adventurous, in a safe creative environment, and challenging themselves to realise their potential.

Please feel free to keep me in mind if you need a helping hand or a listening ear and let me know if you become aware of any situations within the school community where you think I may be able to help students or their families.

How can you get involved?

Every School Chaplaincy encourages partnership with local churches and communities.

You can help by volunteering to assist at:

  • Morning Teas,
  • SUPA Club,
  • student groups,
  • and other activities / events

Please give me a call at the school to find out more or email me.
