At this School we believe that a child who identifies as
having natural abilities in higher order thinking capabilities needs a program
that will nurture and extend these abilities into talents as they progress
through our school. We use this belief and the school’s Guiding Values and
Principles to achieve our vision for the 21st Century, based on
Howard Gardiner’s Five Minds for the Future:
- Disciplined Mind
- Synthesising Mind
- Creative Mind
- Respectful Mind
- Ethical Mind
Our Extension and Enrichment programs are diverse and aim to
enrich all the 9 multiple intelligences of Gardner.
The following programs are run by the school:
Coding club
Coding club is run during breaks in the senior Primary Library and aims to
teach students how to advance their understanding of Scratch coding.
Lego Robotics
Lego Robotics is being introduced across the school using
Lego WeDo2.1 to advance students abilities in Graphical Programming and
robotics.
Australian Problem Solving Math Olympiad
This competition is run from May to September each
year. Every year we enter two teams. The younger grades take part in
the Math games and the older grades take part in the Olympiad. These games are thinking based math
problems. Our
teams have done very well in the past years.
Robotics
With the use of Spheros, Makey Makey boards, GoPro’s and
Lego, students explore the world of robotics while innovating towards a better
future.
Entrepreneurial Program
Our Entrepreneurial Groups solve real world needs and
problems using technology, innovation and empathy. This is run with different groups across the
school each term. Our senior team had an
interactive robotics display at Fun Day and our year 5 girls team recently won
the social entrepreneurial challenge at Corinda State High school for their
social enterprise to help save the turtles.
Science Week
Science week is always a huge celebration at Camp Hill State
Infants and Primary School. We
have had a crime scene where the students had to solve a crime by analysing the
evidence available. Last year we built a
city of the future out of recycled materials.
On the senior campus we have various scientists visiting and conducting
experiments with our students. A group
of students attended a workshop at the CUBE at QUT for a day of innovation and
real world problem solving. Our year 5
and 6 students climbed aboard a boat for an investigative day out on the bay
where they researched plankton and fish species that can be found in our
waters.
