Prep at Camp Hill State Infants and Primary School.
Prep provides the foundation for your child's success at school by developing:
- A positive approach to learning
- Independence and confidence
- Thinking and problem-solving skills
- Oral language skills
- Early literacy and numeracy
- Physical abilities, including gross and fine motor skills
Your child must be five years old by 30 June in the year they start Prep (https://schoolinfo.com.au/ ).
Prep runs five days a week, and children attend for the full school day from 8:50am-3:05pm.
At Camp Hill State Infants and Primary School, our Prep students are part of our Junior School Campus, which is a separate campus dedicated to our youngest learners in Prep, Year 1 and Year 2. This specialised environment supports a smooth and nurturing start to school while still being fully connected to the broader school community.
Prep is integrated into the life of the school, with students participating in a range of school experiences and learning opportunities. Our Prep students wear the Camp Hill State Infants and Primary School Prep uniform.
Learning in Prep
Prep teachers use the Australian Curriculum Version 9 (AC V9) to plan engaging and developmentally appropriate learning experiences. Teaching includes a combination of explicit instruction, investigations and play-based learning to support children as they build foundational knowledge and skills.
Prep learning incorporates the following Australian Curriculum learning areas:
- English
- Mathematics
- Science
- Humanities and Social Sciences (HASS)
- The Arts
- Technologies (Digital and Design)
- Health and Physical Education
Physical Development
Developing physical skills is an important part of Prep. Children participate in active outdoor gross motor play that supports the development of gross motor skills, coordination, balance and strength. These activities also help develop directional language, body awareness and hand-eye coordination.
