Swimming Procedures
To ensure the health and safety of all students, it is our practice that children who are unwell or have weeping sores, cuts and/or abrasions, are not permitted to participate in swimming lessons.
In addition, Queensland Health has guidelines on the control of Cryptosporidium External link in Pools.
An increasing number of cryptosporidiosis cases are reported each year. The cryptosporidium germ causes a bowel infection with diarrhoea, vomiting and cramps.
Some of the guidelines recommendations include:
- People ill with diarrhoea, or ill in the past two (2) weeks with loose bowel motions must not use public swimming pools;
- Non toilet trained children and incontinent persons will wear waterproof pants, firm fitting bike pants and have regular toilet breaks.
In accordance with the guidelines, all students identified as having continence difficulties or have had an ‘accident’ in the pool, will be required to wear an incontinence waterproof swimming pant. Students will not be allowed to swim without an incontinence swim pant as detailed in the sentence above.
Swim pants can be either disposable or reusable. Disposable swim pants in small sizes are available from supermarkets and chemists. Reusable swim pants are available for very small children in chemists, sports stores and department stores. Larger sizes are available through continence product suppliers, if you like more information on these products, please do not hesitate to contact the school.
If your child has a medical issue regarding continence matters please provide medical reports and documentation to the school for our records.
Please do not hesitate to contact the school, if you have any questions or concerns regarding this information.
