DIBELS Reading Assessment

As part of our ongoing commitment to supporting every child's reading development, our school conducts DIBELS (Dynamic Indicators of Basic Early Literacy Skills) assessments three times each year for all students. DIBELS is a set of fast, one-minute individual tests that measure early reading and literacy skills. It evaluates key areas like phonemic awareness, alphabetic principles, and reading fluency.  The Queensland Department of Education highly recommends this assessment tool because it provides clear, reliable information about the foundational skills that contribute to strong reading. DIBELS helps us identify students who may be at risk in their reading progress and allows teachers to monitor growth over time, ensuring that any necessary support or intervention is provided as early as possible.

Teachers use DIBELS results alongside classroom observations and other assessments to build a complete picture of each student's literacy development. You may hear your child's teacher refer to this information during Parent-Teacher Conferences, where results will help guide conversations about strengths, next steps, and classroom support.
